Leafy greens such as lettuce, arugula, kale, mustard and spinach are among the most popular grown vegetables. They can be produced year-round in greenhouse automated controlled environment in Hydroponics Growing Systems

The two most common hydroponic growing systems for leafy greens are Soil-less Substrate and NFT (Nutrient Film Technique).

Soil-less Substrate

Soil-less systems use materials coconut core as a growing media, contained is grow-bags or growing-tray-system, in a greenhouse growing environment. Automated and controlled irrigation and fertilization of the plants is the main key to healthy and vigorous growth and optimal production.
Plants grow by accumulating and organizing substances from outside themselves. Those substances come into the plant and are absorbed into the leaves from the water taken up by its roots.

 

NFT

NFT for crop production is a method of growing in which the plants have their roots in a shallow stream of recirculation solution, in which are dissolved all the elements required. There is no solid rooting medium. A root mat develops which is partly in the shallow stream of the recirculation solution and partly above it.
This is the ultimate solution for very high yield in shorter cycles, offering optimized freshness as the crop can be delivered with the roots, leading to a longer shelf life.

 

Grow-bags

Grow-Bags are produced from the coconut husks,  uniform spongy and fibrous product with excellent air-water relation.

The grow bags are placed on  drainage spacers to assure optimal drainage.

Ground cover

Raffia sheeting serves as ground cover.

The raffia is a woven polypropylene cloth with black and white combined colors

The cloth is strong, flexible and it blocks light transmission.

It is used for the growth of plants in soilless medium and other applications, where there is a need for porous cloth which blocks out light.
